Delete Google Groups using the Admin console

Start your action by signing in to the Google Admin console. So, use an administrator account for this purpose.

Go to the Menu>Directory>Groups from the Admin console.

Now, you can delete one or more than one groups as per your requirement.

  • One group: Point out the group you want to delete. Then click on More>Delete group. Again click on Delete group.
  • Multiple groups: Check out the boxes next to the groups you want to delete. Then click on Delete groups>Delete groups at the top.

Delete Google Groups through Google Groups Interface (groups.google.com)

You need to use the Groups for Business for this purpose. Also, remember that only the owner of the group can perform the task. Other members can’t do it.

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Then click upon the name of a group.
  3. After that, click on Group settings>Delete group on the left side.
  4. Now click on Delete group.
  5. Finally, confirm it by clicking OK.

  2. You need to download the CSV format. So go to File>Download>Comma Separated Values (.csv).
  3. Log into Foresight with the Google Admin account. Go to the Rules page and click on the New Rule New rule button button.
  4. Select the Data uploaded trigger. Upload the required CSV file. Wait for the file to be parsed. Then you need to click on Next.
  5. Select the Delete group action.
  6. Then you need to grant permission for Foresight in the Google Workspace. Do it by signing in to your account with the Sign in with Google button. The Access granted label will appear after the successful access permission.
  7. In the Group Email field, select the Email variable.
  8. Then click on Review.
  9. Enter the Rule name (Bulk delete Google Groups) on the Review page and click on Create.
  10. Now the rule is created on the Rules page.

Rule Triggering

  1. Click on the Upload button and upload the same CSV file.

Verifying the results

  1. A notification will appear in the top right corner. Click on Show all or go to the Logs page to see the result.
  2. Now verify the result from the Google Admin console. You will find that the 4 groups have been deleted. Search for the groups using filter by email, and you will see that all groups are deleted
  3. You can find the result by the same process for the other two groups.
